Californians Unclear On The Concept

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a resolution yesterday to rename the Bay Bridge after Emperor Norton . Norton I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico, was the 49er turned town character who reportedly included among his many proclamations a decree that a bridge be built from Oakland to San Francisco. Once the proposal is approved by San Francisco's mayor, it then goes to Oakland and on to the state legislature.

So SFGate ran a poll asking if this was a good idea. 27% of the respondents said, "No, people will think we're nuts."

Let's just sit with that one for a minute: we can't name the Bay Bridge after Emperor Norton because people will think we're nuts.

Hello!? Just where is it that you think we live, anyway?
