What's Shiny Today
- "Japander.,& v.t. 1. a western star
who uses his or her fame to make large sums of money in a short time by
advertising products in Japan that they would probably never use. ~er (see
synecure, prostitute) 2. to make an ass of oneself in Japanese media."
- A real estate ad on Craig's List plugged the "period restoration" of
a bungalow that was probably built around the 1920s, give or take 10 years.
This is the kitchen
that was part of this "period restoration."
This
is what an actual 1920s Bay Area kitchen looked like. And they say real
estate people are dishonest!
- By the second week of Cal football, the Bears managed to beat last season's
record. Could this year's team actually be good, against the precedent of..
well... most every other Cal football team in my lifetime? I'm keeping an eye
overhead just in case there are any pigs flapping around.
- And speaking of Cal, some kind soul over there set up a page that not
only explains how to calculate a baseball team's magic number, but how home-field advantage
is determined for the playoffs. (I missed a rare cross-bay double header of our two contending teams yesterday -- and both teams won, too.)

immaturity is bipartisan, greenparty.org
